Horse & Soul

Emotions are energy.

During this phase we explore energy; what does energy feel like? The energy of emotions, and how to manage and moderate our emotions, to enable equine relation and interaction. Horses are extremely sensitive to our emotions and will react according to the emotional energy they are sensing within us. The 'miracle' part of this is that horses will respond to subconscious emotion as well as conscious emotion which brings forth core issues that need to be explored and feelings that need to be felt.

Assessment phase

Growth and change

The equine assisted therapy offers you an opportunity to see your emotional reflection, which includes a sub conscious reflection.

The horses are mirror like in their work, this is not to say that they always reflect exactly how you are feeling, i.e. anger=anger but they will certainly communicate to you with their body language what it is they sense about you, they are able to sense your emotional energy.

Have you ever been in a room with someone who is very angry? Have you felt the aggression coming off of them? Have you ever been near someone who seems to always be happy? Have you felt good in their company?

There are also exercises that are peaceful enough to allow you to reflect with the horse, to connect and notice what the horse communicates with their body language and energy.

What happens in the therapy?

Equine facilitated therapy will work very quickly at identifying the aspects that need development and processing, this will inevitably result in growth and change.

I provide a safe therapeutic space for this to take place and also offer private and confidential consultations to offer time to reflect on the process and how you are feeling.

Growth and change is different for everyone, it is a unique and individual process that cannot be time bound. to begin with a number of session will be agreed upon, during the sessions there will be an opportunity to review your progress and change and to decide on whether you might like to have further therapy, and indeed how you are felling about the therapy. the therapy is very much guided by the client and the horses to allow a natural process to take place.

The next stage is assessment with the horses whereby you spend some reflective time meeting the horses, this allows me to identify the direction of therapy. sometimes this exercise is carried out from behind the fence if a client is particularly nervous, I always aim to work within the clients capabilities and comfort.

Horses are flight animals by nature, ready to run from danger in an instant, always alert to everything around them, using their sensitive senses to pick up approaching danger.

We are predators by nature, a horse will naturally be distrustful of humans until it has learnt otherwise with time, patience and training.

A horse requires trust to build a relationship with a person, the same as we also require trust in our relationships.

By moderating our behaviour and our energy it is possible to connect with these beautiful animals, there are a variety of very slow and gentle exercises to do on the ground with the horses to build this up, resulting in a beautiful connection and a growth in self esteem, confidence and wellbeing.

For the initial meeting, I arrange an informal chat and assessment, this enables the client to gain some understanding of the therapy and how it might be helpful to them, it also gives the client opportunity to ask questions, discuss a programme of therapy and to see how they feel about working with me, its important that the client has an idea of how they might feel about working with me in order for a trusting therapeutic relationship to develop

This type of therapy, offers a unique opportunity to be with an honest and non judgemental animal, who requires you to develop yourself in order to connect with them. the connection and self development offer a uniquely fundamental sense of connection to life, and yourself.

It requires courage to look at oneself in the honest reflection of the horse.

It's a personal learning journey.
